In 1997, Council on Aging of Volusia County established an annual fundraiser, Walk for Meals on Wheels, to support nutrition services; over the years it has been expanded to include other grant funded services.
The WALKs themselves are short in nature, more like a parade of supporters to give a face to the mission of the Council on Aging. We walk to make known that our elderly population is an important part of our communities and that for those who need some help to remain self-sufficient, we’re here to provide the services. The WALKs are our fundraising events that enable us to draw down the matching State and Federal funds that sustain the delivery of these services.
